XAGUSD closed Wednesday at 57.731 after opening the week at 59.619 on Monday. That leaves silver down 1.888 dollars, or roughly 3.2 percent, from the week's open. The high so far this week is 60.055, printed Monday, and the low is 56.609, reached Tuesday. Price has recovered off that low but remains well inside the red for the week.
The move down was front-loaded. Silver sold off through Monday and Tuesday, sliding from a 60.055 high to a 56.609 low before Wednesday's bounce, as traders trimmed metal exposure ahead of the Federal Reserve. The July Federal Funds Rate decision arrives Wednesday at 18:00 GMT with the market expecting no change, holding at 3.75 percent. That anticipation, not a fresh data print, set the tone for the first half of the week.
The FOMC Statement and press conference on Wednesday evening are the single biggest driver left, even with the rate itself expected to hold at 3.75 percent. If the tone reads dovish and the dollar softens, silver has room to work back toward the 58 handle. If the Fed pushes back on rate cut expectations and the dollar firms, Tuesday's 56.609 low is the reference point that comes back into focus. Thursday brings the second event to watch: US Core PCE m/m, forecast at 0.2 percent against a 0.3 percent prior, alongside Advance GDP at 2.1 percent. A cooler inflation read would support metals, while a hotter print revives dollar strength.
As of Wednesday, LHFX client positioning shows 62.9 percent long against 37.1 percent short. That skew tells you the crowd is leaning into a rebound after the two-day drop, betting the bounce off 56.609 holds. A long-heavy book into a high-impact central bank event is worth noting, because it leaves more traders exposed if the Fed disappoints.
Silver is fighting around 57.73 with the 58 round number just overhead. If buyers push through 58 and the FOMC cooperates, the week's 60.055 high is the next structural marker. If 57 gives way, Tuesday's 56.609 low is the level in play. Silver often tracks Gold, so watch whether the two move together through the Fed.
