Silver traded through a wide range this week. XAGUSD opened Monday at 59.619, printed a weekly high of 60.055 and a weekly low of 56.609, then settled Friday at 58.262. That leaves a net weekly decline of roughly 1.36 points, close to 2.3%. Most of the damage came early, with the low struck on Tuesday before buyers recovered part of the drop.
The economic calendar was thin, so silver took direction from the broader dollar and rates story. Tuesday's low near 56.61 formed as the greenback held firm, then a sharp reversal in USD/JPY set the tone for risk appetite. USD/JPY moved lower on speculation of intervention before rebounding above 160 after the BOJ decision, and that whipsaw in the dollar coincided with silver's recovery off the lows into midweek.
Commodity-linked currencies added to the picture. The NZDUSD and the AUDUSD both gained over 1% on the day, and USDCAD hit a fresh multi-week low. That softer-dollar tone helped silver claw back toward 59 by Thursday's close of 59.034, before Friday's session drifted back to 58.262 on lighter volume.
The bundle lists no scheduled high-impact events for the coming week. With the calendar quiet, silver is likely to stay driven by dollar direction and the tone in gold. If the dollar continues to soften and Gold firms, silver typically follows higher. If the dollar reasserts strength, the metal tends to give back recent gains. Watch USD/JPY and the commodity currencies as a read on risk appetite, since those pairs led the moves this week.
Client positioning shows 62.9% long against 37.1% short as of Friday. That is a clear skew toward the buy side. A crowded long book means consensus expects a bounce, and it also means any fresh drop can accelerate as late longs are forced out. Keep that lean in mind when price approaches the week's low.
The weekly low at 56.609 is the first floor. If price closes below it, sellers have room toward the 56.61 shelf that held on Tuesday. On the upside, 59.278 marks the Thursday high, and a close above it puts the 60.055 weekly high back in play. Between those, 58.262 sits as the current close and acts as the near-term pivot.
