Where USDTRY closed the week

USDTRY opened Monday at 49.9551, printed the weekly low at 49.76555 inside that first session, then ground higher for the rest of the week. The high came Thursday at 50.1468 and the pair settled Friday at 50.13828. That is a net gain of 0.18318 lira, roughly 0.37%, or about 1,832 pips on a four-decimal quote. The full weekly range was 0.38125 lira, and almost all of the upside was banked in a single direction: every daily close from Monday through Thursday was higher than the one before it, with Friday finishing a fraction lower at 50.13828 against Thursday's 50.14175.

What moved price

There were no scheduled Turkish releases in this week's data bundle, and the price action reads that way. This was a grind rather than a reaction. Monday closed at 49.97532, Tuesday pushed the first close above the figure at 50.00675, and Wednesday extended to 50.03175. The expansion arrived Thursday, when the pair travelled from 49.92362 to 50.1468 and closed at 50.14175 on volume of 9,731, the heaviest of the week and nearly triple Friday's 3,082. Thursday's range alone accounted for 0.22318 lira, more than half of everything the week produced.

Friday was the opposite picture. The session traded between 50.13629 and 50.14249, a span of 0.0062 lira, which is a market that has stopped looking for a new price. The one headline carried in the feed covered AUD/USD sellers driving that pair to its lowest level since mid-October, a reminder that the broad dollar bid was not confined to the lira cross. USDTRY expressed it as a slow carry-style drift. AUDUSD expressed it as a directional break.

The week ahead

The calendar supplied with this bundle contains no scheduled high-impact events for USDTRY in the coming week, so there is no print to position around and nothing here justifies a forecast. What you can watch instead is behaviour. If the pair opens and holds above Thursday's 50.1468 high, the market has accepted the break of the 50.00 figure and the burden shifts to sellers to prove otherwise. If it opens below Friday's 50.13629 low and loses the figure, the entire advance from 49.76555 comes back into question and Wednesday's 50.03175 close becomes the first reference point underneath. Thin Friday volume means the close is a weak anchor, so treat the first session's range as the more honest signal. Should unscheduled Turkish policy or inflation news hit the wire, the typical pattern on a hotter-than-expected inflation print is lira weakness and an extension higher in USDTRY, while evidence of tighter policy or stronger reserves tends to cap the pair and compress the range.

Levels to watch

Three references frame everything from this week. The first is 50.1468, the Thursday high and the week's ceiling. A daily close above it leaves the 50.00 figure well behind and the pair in unbroken territory for the move. The second is 50.00, the round number the pair reclaimed on Tuesday's close at 50.00675. It has acted as a floor for four sessions, and a decisive close back underneath would mark the first real failure of the week's structure. The third is 49.76555, Monday's low and the base of the entire range. Price has not revisited it since the opening session, so a return there would wipe out the week.

Every level above came from the week's own traded range rather than a round-number wish list, which is where you should be drawing them from.
