XAUUSD opened the week at 4094.01 and closed Friday at 4074.79. The high came in at 4120.21 on Thursday, the low at 3995.84 on Wednesday. Net, gold shed about 19 dollars from open to close, a decline near 0.47 percent. The range was wide relative to the modest net change, so the flat close hides real intraweek movement.
No scheduled high-impact events sat in this week's bundle, so price action was driven by flow rather than fresh headlines. Monday and Tuesday saw selling that pushed the close from 4073.16 down to 4024.87, and Wednesday extended the probe to 3995.84 before buyers stepped in hard and dragged the close back to 4084.39.
Thursday continued the recovery to 4105.70 and tagged 4120.21 intraday. Friday cooled off on light volume of 40328 versus the 200000-plus prints earlier in the week, closing at 4074.79. The thin Friday tape suggests month-end positioning rather than conviction selling.
The bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for the coming week. That does not mean quiet trading. When the calendar is empty, gold tends to take its cue from the dollar and real yields. If the dollar firms, gold typically faces pressure and the week's low near 3995 comes back into focus. If the dollar softens, the Thursday high near 4120 is the level buyers will target. Watch for headline risk that is not on the pre-set calendar, since gold reacts fast to shifts in rate expectations.
LHFX client positioning shows 56.1 percent long against 43.9 percent short as of Friday. That is a mild long skew. Consensus leans toward higher prices, but the tilt is modest rather than crowded, so there is no extreme to fade. A skew this close to even leaves room for price to move either way without triggering a pile of stops on one side.
The Thursday high at 4120.21 is the first ceiling. If price closes above it, the round 4150 area becomes the next reference. On the downside, the Wednesday low at 3995.84 is the line that held. If price breaks and closes below it, the next zone of interest sits lower toward the round 3950 handle. Silver often moves in sympathy, so a look at Silver can help confirm whether metals are moving as a group or gold is trading on its own.
