About BMW
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, known as BMW, is a German premium automaker headquartered in Munich and listed on the Frankfurt Xetra exchange as a DAX 40 constituent. The group sells vehicles under the BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce brands and runs a separate BMW Motorrad motorcycle business. 2024 group revenue was near 142 billion euros with roughly 2.45 million vehicle deliveries.
Geographic mix is structurally important. Around 28% of vehicle deliveries are sold into Greater China (through the joint venture BMW Brilliance, in which BMW raised its stake to 75% in 2022), around 33% into Europe, 19% into the Americas, and the remainder across other Asia-Pacific and Middle East markets. BMW is one of the German automakers most exposed to Chinese consumer cycles and to EU-China tariff politics.
The group reports across Automotive, Motorcycles, Financial Services, and Other Entities segments. Automotive contributed roughly 88% of 2024 revenue, with Financial Services contributing most of the remainder. BMW's electric-vehicle line (i4, iX, iX1, i5, iX3, plus the upcoming Neue Klasse architecture launching 2026) reached around 17% of total deliveries in 2024.
At LHFX you trade BMW as a CFD on BMWG, not as a shareholder. You profit or lose based on the Xetra-quoted EUR price moving in or against your position, and you can go long or short. You never receive the underlying share, voting rights, or cash dividends, but your account is credited or debited a dividend adjustment when BMWG trades ex-dividend so that economic exposure stays equivalent. BMW typically pays one annual dividend in May. Maximum leverage is 1:20 and trading hours follow Xetra, roughly 03:00 to 11:30 ET, Monday to Friday.
What moves BMWG
- 01Chinese passenger-vehicle demand. Around 28% of 2024 BMW deliveries went to Greater China. China monthly passenger-vehicle association (CPCA) data and BMW Brilliance quarterly volume drive sentiment on BMWG more than any other single factor.
- 02EU-China tariff politics. The EU imposed countervailing duties on Chinese-built EVs in late 2024, and China retaliated with anti-dumping probes on EU pork, dairy, and large-engine cars. BMW's exports of larger combustion vehicles to China are directly exposed.
- 03Neue Klasse rollout. BMW's next-generation EV architecture launches with the iX3 (Hungary plant) in 2026. Pre-launch order books, production guidance, and battery-cell supplier costs are watched ahead of each capital markets day.
- 04ECB policy and German manufacturing PMI. Higher rates compress European auto financing demand; weaker German manufacturing PMIs typically drag BMWG. The stock has a 0.7+ correlation to DAX 40 industrials on macro days.
- 05Raw material costs. BMW is exposed to steel, aluminium, lithium, nickel, and cobalt prices. Sharp moves in battery-metal indices (lithium carbonate, nickel) feed directly into automotive segment EBIT margin.
How to trade BMWG at LHFX
Open an LHFX account, fund it (minimum 10 USD), and add BMWG to your MetaTrader 5 Market Watch. The symbol is denominated in EUR; P&L converts to your account base currency at end of day.
Spreads on BMWG are raw, with a flat 3 USD per side commission. Maximum leverage is 1:20, so a 1,000 EUR position requires 50 EUR of margin.
Worked example. With BMW quoted around 85 EUR, opening 5 share equivalents of long BMWG at 1:20 leverage requires roughly 21.25 EUR in margin (425 / 20). A 5% adverse move costs 21.25 EUR, which is 100% of the margin posted. Scale to 25 share equivalents and you are at roughly 106 EUR margin against a 106 EUR loss on a 5% drop. BMWG typically trades in a 1.5 to 2.5% daily range with earnings prints producing 4 to 7% single-day moves.
Set a stop loss before entry. The biggest single-session catalysts are quarterly earnings, capital markets days, monthly Chinese auto data, and EU-China tariff announcements. BMW also publishes monthly delivery numbers, which can produce intraday spikes around the release window.
Xetra closes at 11:30 ET. Overnight swap is charged on notional exposure and updates inside MT5 symbol specifications.
Risks specific to BMWG
BMW carries two specific risks worth flagging. First, China cyclical exposure: roughly 28% of deliveries go to Greater China, which means a Chinese consumer slowdown (such as the 2023-2024 property-led drag on premium sales) hits BMW more than most European industrials. Second, EV transition costs: the Neue Klasse rollout in 2026 carries multi-billion euro capital expenditure, and slower-than-modelled EV adoption would extend the payback period.
Mitigations. Size positions so a 7% adverse move costs no more than 2 to 3% of your account, because BMWG has produced multiple 5 to 7% single-day moves on China-tariff news and earnings prints since 2022. Set a stop loss on every position. Avoid holding a large leveraged position across known catalyst dates (quarterly earnings, capital markets days, monthly Chinese auto association releases). Use the demo account to size a few cycles first.
