GBPUSD week ahead: what to watch from 2026-08-03

GBPUSD closed last week near 1.3491 after a strong Thursday and Friday push, and the new week opens with the calendar quiet and positioning evenly split.

How last week left SOLUSD

SOLUSD opened Monday the 27th of July at 76.62 and closed Friday the 31st at 72.71. That is a net weekly loss of about 3.91 points, roughly 5.1 percent. The heaviest damage came on the final session, when price opened at 74.34 and sold off to close at 72.71 after tagging a low of 72.39.

What this week is about

The calendar carries no scheduled high-impact events for SOLUSD across the five sessions ahead. That puts the focus on price structure and broad market tone rather than a single catalyst. With nothing dated to anchor to, the way price behaves around last week's close of 72.71 becomes the reference point traders will read.

Wider crypto direction is the secondary theme. SOLUSD tends to move with the largest names, so a firm or weak open in Bitcoin often sets the mood for the session. Watch how SOLUSD tracks that lead through the first two days of the week.

Scenarios for the week

If price reclaims and holds above last week's Thursday high of 74.81 early in the week, the prior Monday high at 77.35 comes back into focus as the next reference. If sellers cap the move there, the 72.71 close is back in play.

If price loses the 72.39 low from Friday, the door opens toward the lower part of last week's range and the 72.14 area seen on the 29th. A firm bounce off that zone would keep the range intact rather than confirm a break.

Positioning into the new week

Sentiment on our book shows 61 percent long against 39 percent short as of the Monday open. That is a clear long skew after a losing week. A crowd leaning long into a market that just fell can signal traders buying the dip, and it also means there are more long positions exposed if price fails to recover.

Levels to watch

The 72.71 close and the 72.39 Friday low mark the lower reference band. Above, 74.81 is the recent swing high and 77.35 sits at the top of last week's range. These are reference levels for context, not entry signals. Open an LHFX account to trade SOLUSD this week.
