SPX500 midweek: index holds near 7495 after Tuesday push, 2026-07-20

SPX500 sits at 7494.7 midweek, up about 32 points from Monday's open, with the 7510 to 7514 ceiling still the fight.

Where XAGUSD stands midweek

Silver trades at 59.665 as of Wednesday's close, the last mark in this week's data. That puts XAGUSD up roughly 3.80 dollars from Monday's open at 55.865, a gain near 6.8 percent across three sessions. The week's high sits at 59.955, printed Wednesday, and the low is 55.575 from Monday.

What has driven price so far

The move ran alongside a broad risk bid. On Tuesday, USD/JPY hit a fresh 40-year high as equities, yields and oil all gained, per ForexLive. Silver pushed through the upper 56s into the 59s over the same window, carried by the same appetite that lifted those markets rather than by any single scheduled release.

What's still ahead

The bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for the back half of this week, so the tape is left to momentum and dollar flow. The recent PBOC fixings have set a firmer-dollar tone from Beijing, with the mid-point coming in stronger than the market estimate. If that stronger-dollar bias persists into Thursday and Friday, silver's advance faces a headwind. If it fades, the risk bid that carried the week has room to continue.

Positioning right now

As of Wednesday, 62.8 percent of positioning sits long and 37.2 percent short. That skew tells you the crowd has leaned into the rally rather than fading it. A long-heavy book after a 6.8 percent run also means the market is more exposed to a shakeout if buyers step back.

The level that matters today

The 59.955 high is the line silver is pressing against. If price holds above 59.665 and clears that high, the round 60.00 handle is the next obvious reference. If it slips back, 58.733, Wednesday's low, is the first level buyers need to defend, with the 56s marking where the week's push began. Gold traders can track the parallel move on Gold for confirmation of the broader metals bid. You can follow both instruments live on an LHFX account.
