The JPN225 opened the week at 65,340 and closed at 64,360. In between it carved a wide range. The high printed at 65,436 on Friday and the low reached 60,430 on Wednesday. That is a swing of more than 5,000 points from top to bottom. The net move was a loss of about 980 points, roughly 1.5 percent below the open.
The week split into two halves. From Monday through Wednesday the index sold off hard, sliding from 65,340 down to a Wednesday low of 60,430. Volume climbed as the selling accelerated, peaking near 220,000 on the Wednesday session, the busiest day of the week. That points to real conviction behind the drop rather than thin-market drift.
Thursday reversed the tone. Price gapped nothing but bought back aggressively, closing at 64,196 after tagging a 64,415 high. Friday held the recovery and pushed the high back up to 65,436 before settling at 64,360 on much lighter volume near 58,000. The lighter Friday turnover suggests the bounce ran into fading participation rather than fresh buying.
The bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for the coming week. With the calendar quiet, price action is likely to take its cue from broader index sentiment and cross-market flows. Watch how the DAX 30 and other major benchmarks trade, since a risk-on tone across equity indices tends to support JPN225 and a risk-off tone tends to pressure it. If global equities firm up, the Friday recovery has room to extend. If they wobble, the midweek lows come back into focus.
Sentiment sits at 54.4 percent long against 45.6 percent short as of 31 July. That is a modest tilt toward the long side. The skew is not extreme, so consensus is leaning bullish without crowding into it. A reading this close to balanced offers little contrarian signal on its own.
The Friday high at 65,436 caps the range. If price closes above it, the prior open near 65,340 is cleared and the path opens toward higher ground. On the downside, the Wednesday close at 61,429 marks the first shelf. Below that, the 60,430 low is the line that held the entire week.
