XAUUSD midweek: gold claws back to 4035 after Tuesday selloff, 2026-07-27

Gold sits near 4035 midweek, down from Monday's open, with the week's slide stalling and positioning still tilted long.

Where ETHUSD stands midweek

ETHUSD trades near 1905.85 as of Wednesday's close, down from Monday's open of 1951.22. That is a drop of about 45 points, or roughly 2.3 percent across the first three sessions. The week's high sits at 1978.34, printed Monday, and the low is 1853.23, tapped Tuesday. Price has since clawed back into the middle of that range.

What has driven price so far

Monday did the damage. ETHUSD opened at 1951.22, ran to 1978.34, then reversed hard to close at 1889.02, a wide bearish bar on the week's heaviest volume. Tuesday steadied with a close at 1918.41. Wednesday's session has been quiet on thin volume, coiling into the FOMC decision due at 18:00. The macro tape is dominated by the dollar, and the crypto bid has followed rate expectations rather than any coin-specific catalyst.

What's still ahead

The Federal Funds Rate decision and FOMC statement land Wednesday at 18:00, with the press conference at 18:30. Consensus has the rate held at 3.75 percent, so the tone of the statement and Powell's tone in the presser carry the reaction. A dovish read tends to support risk assets like ETHUSD, while any pushback on cuts can knock it lower. Thursday brings the second heavyweight: US Advance GDP q/q at 12:30 forecast at 2.1 percent, alongside Core PCE m/m forecast at 0.2 percent. A hot GDP and firm PCE strengthen the dollar and pressure crypto. A soft pair does the opposite.

Positioning right now

As of Wednesday morning, LHFX client positioning shows 61.9 percent long against 38.1 percent short. That skew tells you the crowd is leaning into a bounce midweek, buying the dip after Monday's reversal. A long-heavy book ahead of a high-impact event is worth watching, because a hawkish Fed surprise can force those longs to unwind quickly.

The level that matters today

The line in the sand is the 1918 area, Tuesday's close and the top of Wednesday's tight range. If ETHUSD reclaims and holds above 1918 after the Fed, the week's high near 1978 comes back into focus. If it fails there and slips back under the round 1900 handle, Tuesday's low at 1853 is the next reference. Watch how it trades relative to Bitcoin, which tends to lead the crypto complex through macro events. If you want to track these levels live across sessions, you can open an LHFX account and follow the moves in real time.
