SPX500 midweek: index holds near 7495 after Tuesday push, 2026-07-20

SPX500 sits at 7494.7 midweek, up about 32 points from Monday's open, with the 7510 to 7514 ceiling still the fight.

Where ETHUSD stands midweek

ETHUSD closed Wednesday at 1915.55, up about 47 points from Monday's open at 1868.79. That leaves the asset roughly 2.5 percent higher on the week so far. The high so far is 1950.05, printed Tuesday, and the low is 1840.03 from Monday's session. Price has spent the last two days working through a tighter range near the top of that band.

What has driven price so far

There is no scheduled crypto-specific data on the tape this week, so ETHUSD has moved with broader risk appetite. Forexlive reported USD/JPY hitting a fresh 40-year high above 163 on Tuesday as equities, yields and oil all gained. That risk-on backdrop lined up with ETHUSD's push to 1950 the same day. Wednesday's pullback to 1915 came on much thinner volume, 73852 versus roughly 288000 on Monday and Tuesday, which points to consolidation rather than a reversal.

What's still ahead

The bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for the back half of this week, so the driver stays macro sentiment and the dollar. Watch the USD/JPY move: if the broad risk-on tone that carried into Tuesday persists, ETHUSD has room to retest the 1950 high. If the dollar strength that pushed USD/JPY to fresh highs starts pulling capital out of risk assets instead, the 1900 handle becomes the first line to defend. Correlated crypto like Bitcoin is worth a glance, since a sharp move there tends to drag ETHUSD with it.

Positioning right now

As of Wednesday morning, positioning sits 62 percent long against 38 percent short. That is a clear tilt toward the upside, and it fits price holding near the week's highs. A crowded long book is worth noting, though: if 1900 gives way, those late longs are the first to feel pressure.

The level that matters today

1900 is the level in play right now. It sits just below Wednesday's close and lines up with a round number that has framed the last two sessions. If ETHUSD holds above 1900, the 1950 high from Tuesday is the obvious next reference. If it breaks below and stays there, the 1840 low from Monday comes back into view.
