USDTRY week ahead: Friday reversal in focus, 2026-10-12

How last week left USDTRY
USDTRY opened last Monday at 49.14676 and closed Friday at 48.93812. That is a net loss of about 0.42% over the week. The shape of it matters more than the size. Monday through Thursday was a slow grind higher, with Thursday posting the best close of the week at 49.31985 and the week's high at 49.33107. Friday reversed the lot. The pair opened at 49.32832 and ran down to 48.79161. It settled at 48.93812, roughly 0.79% below its own open. Friday also carried the heaviest volume of the week, so the move had participation behind it rather than thin-tape drift.
What this week is about
There is no high-impact scheduled release for USDTRY in the five sessions starting Monday 12 October 2026. The calendar is empty, and that absence is the theme. Without a print to react to, price action is driven by carry mechanics and the broad dollar. The one dated item on the tape as the week opens is the PBOC reference rate for USD/CNY. That fix is not a lira input, but it is a daily read on how the dollar is being handled against managed and emerging-market currencies, and it sets the tone Asia hands to Europe.
The secondary theme is whether Friday's reversal was a one-session flush or the start of a lower range. USDTRY spent four sessions building a shelf between roughly 49.01 and 49.33 before Friday broke beneath it. A pair that trends higher on carry rarely gives back ground quietly, so the first two sessions of the week tell you whether 49.00 has flipped from floor to ceiling. Watch the Monday open relative to Friday's close, since a gap back above 49.00 and a failure to hold it are two very different starts. Scenarios for the week
If the early sessions recover and close back above Wednesday's close at 49.20040, Friday's drop reads as a liquidation flush and last week's high at 49.33107 comes back into view as the next reference. If price instead stalls under 49.00 and Monday or Tuesday closes beneath Friday's settlement at 48.93812, the Friday low at 48.79161 is the obvious level back in play, and the four sessions of grind above 49.00 become overhead supply.
A third path is range. Should neither 49.33107 nor 48.79161 trade again, the week compresses inside last week's bar and the question simply defers to the following week. Cross-check the broad dollar while you do it. If EUR/USD firms at the same time USDTRY slips, the move is dollar-wide rather than lira-specific, and that distinction changes how much weight you put on any single USDTRY session.
Levels to watch
Three references come out of last week's trade. Start with the high at 49.33107, the ceiling the pair failed at on Thursday and never retested. Round-number 49.00 sits inside the Monday-to-Thursday shelf and was the level Friday cut through on the way down. Below that, Friday's low at 48.79161 is the lowest print of the week and the first place a continuation lower would be tested. These are reference levels for reading price behaviour, not entry signals, and none of them carries any obligation for price to respect it.
