The JPN225 opened Monday at 66,159 and finished the week at 68,849. The index printed its low at 66,027 early on and stretched to a weekly high of 69,620 on Friday before easing back. That is a net gain of about 2,690 points, or roughly 4.1 percent across the week.
The advance was steady rather than sudden. Each session closed higher than it opened through Thursday, with Wednesday's push from 67,214 to 68,341 marking the strongest single-day expansion. Buyers defended every dip, and the low of the week held on Monday and was never revisited.
Friday told a different story. Volume dropped to 55,290 against the 130,000-plus seen earlier in the week, and price rejected the 69,620 high to close at 68,849. Thin participation into the weekend explains the pullback more than any shift in direction. The tone across risk assets stayed firm, and moves in the Nasdaq 100 tracked a similar upward bias.
The bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for the coming week. With the calendar quiet, watch how price behaves around the levels set this week. If the index reclaims Friday's rejection zone on rising volume, momentum from the prior sessions stays intact. If volume remains thin and price slips, the mid-week consolidation area comes back into focus. Track cross-market cues, since strength or weakness in global equity benchmarks tends to spill into the index.
LHFX client positioning sits at 54.6 percent long against 45.4 percent short as of 2026-08-14. That is a modest long lean, not a crowded one. Consensus favours further upside, but the narrow gap means there is no extreme skew to fade. A balanced book like this offers little contrarian signal on its own.
The weekly high at 69,620 is the first hurdle. If price closes above it, the round 70,000 handle becomes the obvious next reference. On the downside, Thursday's 68,104 low marks near-term support. If that gives way, the prior consolidation around 67,200 is back in play.
