US30 midweek: index down 648 points from Monday's open, 2026-08-31

US30 sits at 52759 midweek, 648 points below Monday's open, with Wednesday's range compressed to 87 points and positioning still 57.2% long.

Where ETHUSD stands midweek

ETHUSD closed Wednesday at 2417.55. That is 3.32 points above Monday's 2414.23 open, a gain of 0.14% for the week so far. The high is 2487.07, set Monday. The low is 2380.61, set Tuesday. You have a 106.46 point range and almost nothing to show for it at the close.

What has driven price so far

Monday did the work. Price ran from 2414.23 to 2487.07 and gave most of it back into a 2465.07 close. Tuesday sold that inventory, opening at 2465.03 and cutting to 2380.61 before settling at 2416.01. Wednesday's only macro marker in front of you was the PBOC setting its USD/CNY mid-point weaker than the Reuters estimate, a softer yuan reference than the market had modelled. Risk assets took it quietly. Wednesday's session traded inside a 2384.45 to 2422.14 band on roughly a quarter of Monday's volume, and the 2417.55 close left the tape unresolved.

What's still ahead

There is no scheduled high impact release on the calendar for Thursday or Friday in this data set, so the back half of the week runs on flow and on whatever the daily PBOC fix does to the dollar. If Thursday's fix lands closer to consensus than Wednesday's did, the dollar pressure that capped the Monday rally eases and 2487.07 comes back into the conversation. If the gap between fix and estimate widens again, the Tuesday low at 2380.61 becomes the reference point rather than the floor. The same risk tone usually shows up first in Bitcoin, so watch that leg before assuming ETHUSD is leading anything.

Positioning right now

As of Wednesday, 62% of open positions are long and 38% are short. That is a real skew but not an extreme one. It tells you the crowd read Monday's push as the start of something and has not been shaken out by Tuesday's reversal. A long book that size into a flat week is exposed if 2380.61 gives way, because that is where the accumulated positioning starts hurting rather than just annoying.

The level that matters today

2400 is the number the tape keeps touching. Tuesday's low at 2380.61 and Wednesday's low at 2384.45 both sit just under it, and Wednesday's high at 2422.14 caps the other side. If buyers defend 2400 into Thursday and take out 2422.14, the Monday high at 2487.07 is the next structure above. If 2380.61 goes, the round number stops being support and the week's floor has to be rebuilt lower. Both paths are live from here, and you can open an LHFX account to watch them play out on our spreads.
