Where EURUSD stands midweek

EURUSD trades at 1.12226 as of Wednesday's last close, against Monday's 1.12261 open. That is a move of roughly 0.03 percent lower across three sessions, so the pair is effectively unchanged on the week. The range tells a different story. Tuesday printed the high at 1.12604 and Monday carved the low at 1.11863, and the market has already traded through that band in both directions.

What has driven price so far

Tuesday did the damage and then undid it. The investingLive Americas wrap for 20 October described the dollar falling as deal headlines swung oil, and EURUSD used that window to reach 1.12604. The close came in at 1.12258, meaning almost the entire extension was handed back inside the same session. Wednesday brought a counterweight from Asia, where the PBOC set the USD/CNY mid-point weaker than the Reuters estimate and firmed the broad dollar tone. The result is a Wednesday band squeezed between 1.12192 and 1.12310 on volume well below Monday and Tuesday. Traders watching GBP/USD are reading the same dollar signal from the other side.

What's still ahead

There are no scheduled high impact releases in the bundle for Thursday or Friday, which puts the back half of the week in the hands of headline flow rather than the calendar. The deal headlines that moved the dollar on Tuesday remain the live variable. If that story turns dollar negative again and EURUSD reclaims 1.12310, Tuesday's 1.12604 becomes the obvious reference point. If the daily PBOC fix keeps landing weaker than consensus and the dollar bid extends, the 1.12192 floor is the first thing to give way. Thin Wednesday volume also means a single headline can produce an outsized move into Thursday's European open.

Positioning right now

LHFX client sentiment reads 52.1 percent long against 47.9 percent short as of Wednesday morning. That is close to balanced, with a slight tilt toward euro upside. A skew this narrow tells you there is no crowded trade to squeeze midweek. Neither side is trapped, so a break of the weekly range is more likely to come from fresh information than from forced liquidation.

The level that matters today

Wednesday's action has compressed into 1.12192 to 1.12310, and that band is the immediate battleground. Hold above 1.12192 and the pair stays in the upper half of the week's range, with 1.12604 as the ceiling that capped the last rally. Lose it, and 1.12000 sits as the next round number on the way toward Monday's 1.11863 low, the only level properly defended this week.
