SPX500 week ahead: what to watch after a green week, 2026-08-10

SPX500 closed last week at 7749.6 after a strong Tuesday push, and the new week opens with an empty high-impact calendar and a long-skewed crowd.

How last week left GER30

GER30 opened Monday at 25812.8 and closed Friday at 26359.0, a net gain of roughly 546 points, or about 2.1 percent on the week. The bulk of that move arrived early, with Tuesday's push to 26404.4 setting the tone before the index consolidated mid-week and recovered into Friday's close.

What this week is about

The calendar bundle carries no scheduled high-impact events for GER30 this week, so the story is technical. Price is sitting just below the prior-week high at 26438.7, and the first job for the new week is whether buyers can force a close through that level or whether the index stalls under it again as it did on Wednesday.

Without a dated catalyst, watch the broad risk backdrop for direction. Global equity indices tend to move together, so a firm session on S&P 500 can pull GER30 through resistance, while a soft one can leave the index defending last week's lows. Open an LHFX account to trade GER30 this week.

Scenarios for the week

If GER30 closes above the prior-week high of 26438.7 early in the week, the round-number zone near 26500 becomes the next reference area, and momentum buyers usually stay involved while price holds above the breakout. If the index rejects at 26438.7 again, attention shifts back down toward the mid-week base around 26078.9, which held twice last week. A daily close below that base would put the Monday open near 25812.8 back into the conversation.

Positioning into the new week

Client positioning shows 61.8 percent long against 38.2 percent short as of the Monday open. That is a clear long skew, and it tells you the crowd is leaning with the recovery into Friday. A crowded long book can add fuel to a clean breakout, but it also leaves more stops exposed if price rolls back under last week's base.

Levels to watch

Three reference levels frame the week. The prior-week high at 26438.7 caps the range on the top side. The mid-week low at 26078.9 marks the first support that held under pressure. Below that, the Monday open at 25812.8 is the deeper marker from last week's range. These are reference levels for context, not entry signals.
